Rays unable to deal with the Devils

Cardiff Devil 5-1 Excel Hull Stingrays

The Excel Hull Stingrays completed a miserable weekend on the road with a 5-1 loss in South Wales extending their losing streak to five games.

The home side took a two goal lead heading into the third, thanks to goals from Max Birbraer and Matt Towe, before the Rays began to hit back, defenceman James Sanford notching his first goal in a Hull uniform to pull Sylvain Cloutier's side back into the game.

However, an untimely slashing penalty from Stephen Burns, after the Stingrays had begun to get back into the game, allowed the Welsh side to grab the initiative once again, with Matt Miller capitalising on the ensuing powerplay to restore the Devils two goal lead.

Further goals from Phil Hill and Birbraer, who bagged his second of the night, compounded the Stingrays misery and handed Cloutier and his Stingrays side yet another loss.

They now face another tough week of training before a home-and-away double header against the in-form Belfast Giants next weekend.
