Three goal second kills off Stingrays

Dundee Stars 4-3 Excel Hull Stingrays

A three goal middle stanza from the Dundee Stars tonight ended the Excel Hull Stingrays hopes of recording a victory at the DIA this season, as they went down by four goals to three in the two sides final meeting in Scotland this season.

The Rays got off to a good start, opening the scoring 23 seconds in through Jereme Tendler's 31st of the year, only for the home side to level through Tristan Harper 12 minutes later.

That killer second period then saw the Stars take a 4-1 lead in a five minute spell which saw Brent Hughes, Dan Ceman and Gary Wishart all record goals. Tendler then responded with his second of the game on 31.51 with yet another shorthanded marker to peg the Stars lead back to two before another shorthanded goal, this time from player-coach Sylvain Cloutier, gave the Rays hope of that first win in the city early in the third.

However, despite a four minute powerplay in the dying minutes after a Lauri Kinos high stick they couldn't find the vital goal to take the game to overtime and an A J Maclean empty net goal sealed the two points in favour of the Scottish side with 30 seconds to play.

Next up the Rays take on Yorkshire rivals the Sheffield Steelers, hoping to avoid a second pointless weekend in two weeks and repeat their 7-2 win last time the two teams met.
