Braehead tie Stingrays season series

Braehead Clan 6-1 Excel Hull Stingrays

The Excel Hull Stingrays tonight lost out on the chance to seal a 4-2 series victory over the Braehead Clan this season in a 6-1 loss in Glasgow that instead levels the series at three-a-piece.

The Clan - who will end their inaugural season in an impressive fifth place in the Elite League - raced into a four-nil lead within ten minutes of the second period beginning, after a goalless first, thanks to goals from Jon Landry, Bobby Chaumont and a double from assistant coach Brendan Cook.

Cook completed his hat-trick 22 seconds into the final period before Jozef Sladok and Kyle Bruce dropped the gloves with 13 minutes remaining.

British defenceman Vince Connon then piled further misery on the Stingrays with his sides sixth before captain Kurtis Dulle popped up to notch a consolation after 15.37 to break J F Perras shut out.

The loss denied the Stingrays any hopes of overtaking the Coventry Blaze in sixth, instead condemning them to an Elite League high seventh place finish.

Nevertheless, despite a good season, Sylvain Cloutier's team will have to significantly improve during this weekend's double header against Edinburgh and Nottingham if they are hoping to carry any momentum into the playoff quarter finals with the hope of qualifying for the season ending final four weekend for the first time in their history.
