Stingrays hit eight against Edinburgh

Edinburgh Capitals 0-8 Excel Hull Stingrays

On the back of a 7-2 lesson from the Cardiff Devils yesterday, the Excel Hull Stingrays tonight traveled to Scotland to take on the Edinburgh Capitals and came away with an 8-0 victory thanks to a Jereme Tendler hat-trick and second shutout of the year from Christian Boucher.

The Stingrays got on the board early as Jereme Tendler netted just over 90 seconds into the game to relieve some of the pressure that may have built up if they'd hadn't hit the net, particularly against a team that now hasn't won in 26 games.

Tendler then added a second ten minutes later before Trevor Read scored his seventh of the year a minute before the close of the first.

The Stingrays leading scorer then completed his 4th hat-trick of the year with his 48th of the season 3.39 into the second before Lee Mitchell netting the team's fifth after 31.19.

Third period goals from Brit Andy Hirst - who added a goal to an earlier assist - player/assistant coach Drew Bannister and Lee Esders rounded the scores off at 8-0 with Boucher able to complete his second shutout of the year with a 23 shot blank of the Caps.

The win is a much needed confidence boost for the Stingrays - who fired 44 shots on opposing netminder Jens Van Poulke - after conceding 14 goals in two home games. They make a quick return to Scotland on Tuesday to face an in form Braehead side before traveling back to East Yorkshire to complete the 10/11 regular season with a home double header against Edinburgh and Nottingham next weekend.
