Excel Hull Stingrays 4-2 Newcastle Vipers
The Excel Hull Stingrays ended a two game double header against the Newcastle Vipers in style with a 4-2 victory and in the process sealed their seventh point in seven games sending them into equal eighth place.
Buoyed by a scrap between Stingrays defenceman Aaron Wilson and Newcastle forward Andre Payette, the Stingrays took a three goal lead into the third period with goals from Pavel Gomenyuk, Steve Slonina and Lee Esders, who bagged his second goal in two games.
The Vipers came back strongly in the third period with goals from Likit Andersson and Derek Campbell however Jeff Glowa's 23rd of the season completed an impressive team performance and sent the Stingrays onto an equal 25 points with Edinburgh in eighth place.
Strachan said: "After Newcastle scored I thought we steadied it down, and got back in it, but they scored a powerplay goal which was like a fluke as I think it took a bad bounce or something" said Strachan. I got a little nervous then as I could see the guys were getting tired. But they hung in there. They bent but they didn't break, and we got a huge two points."
